Hughes Rally 2025 (CANCELLED)

It is with great reluctance that the Club has decided not to run The Hughes Historic
Regularity Rally in 2025.
After losing Manston Airport we had two further setbacks. We managed to secure
Mereworth Woods for our tests, but this meant a change of date. The only date that
suited most people was Saturday 13 th September, but as a result we lost our
Secretary of the Meeting as he was also performing that role at The Goodwood
Revival meeting that weekend. Additionally, many of our pool of marshals will also be
on duty there, so this was likely to be a further issue. We also lost our Event
coordinator due to pressure of work. It seems the Gods are against us this year, as
we are unable to find replacements for the key roles at short notice.
Therefore, we will concentrate on building a new organising team with a view to
running it in 2026. Our decision has been made with great sadness as this year is
the 60 th anniversary of our foundation, and we had intended to run this as our
flagship event.
Instead, we will be running a road-based 20/20 Regularity Rally on Sunday 27 th April
- the same weekend we had originally planned to run The Hughes. It will be using
most of the roads in East Kent which we had planned to use, which will mean 90 -
100 miles of regularities. The route will be on tarmac roads, and not have any rough
whites, so you can use your everyday shopping car if you wish. You will not need to
have a typical regularity type tripmeter. Instead you can use a tripmeter App on your
mobile phone. If you are interested in entering this, please keep an eye on our web
site, or contact Phil Smith at phil.blackpalfrey@gmail.com.

About Us

The Blackpalfrey Motor Club was formed in 1965, by a group of rally enthusiasts, as an amalgamation of the Black Horse (a Public House) Car Club from Tunbridge Wells and the William Palfrey Limited (an engineering company) Car Club from Rochester.

We formed our base in Maidstone and immediately applied for R.A.C. Motor Sport Division (now Motorsport UK) recognition, in order to promote Motor Sport at club level in the South East. We became a limited company in about 1972.  In the mid '70s we became aware that not being affiliated to a town was a disadvantage and we changed the name to 'The Blackpalfrey Motor Club of Kent'.

In the early years we promoted annually three night road rallies; the Hughes Rally, the Hassel Rally and the Harris Rally, three Autocrosses, Production Car Trials, Grass Autotests and Social events, including Dinner Dances attracting 350 guests etc.  In the 1980s we moved on to promote Slalom Autotests and Sprints on West Malling Airfield, but unfortunately these events came to an end with the development of the Kingshill complex on the old airfield.

In 1996, we decided that the future of the Club would be with the development of the Classic Motorsport and social scene in Kent and the annual Hughes Historic Rally, with 150 mile road section and tests on private land, was born. In 2004 we ran our first Tour of Kent for cars 'over 20 years old and newer 'interesting' cars'.....and here we are today
